What a songPosted by danny price, 02/09/2007 15:13
I have been lstening to the beatles a lot lately and i am drawn to this song like a moth to the flame. If i put it on i have to listen to it several times, its kind of hypnotic and soothing at the same time. I love that opening riff and i am trying to learn it on the guitar. Johns voice is amazing many people tell me they prefer pauls voice but i disagree. i Think johns solo work/albums were better, i never really got into wings and pauls other work and dont get me started on the frog chorus, i also dont see why people liked the mull of kintyre song either.
Can the younger generation really appreciate this song?Posted by tia natanagara, 17/05/2007 10:57
Even though I was a teen in the 70's, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate this generation's music. You have to admit - the BEAT of this generation is absolutely fantastic!!! But the problem now is can THIS generation appreciate a song like "Across the Universe"??? For me, it's a song where you just sit there and let the sounds and the words flow into your soul. It's the sun and the rain rolled up into one. It's total enlightment!!!
no really he isnt ..... but this is a groovy tunePosted by Ryan, 29/04/2007 05:50

John's NOT talking about PaulPosted by Bad Dan, 10/03/2007 07:36
According to legend Paul actually died in 1966. And their is no reference to his death in this song although their are tons of clues in other songs.
john is talking about paulPosted by paulisdead, 24/02/2007 06:47
paul died in 1964. john is talking about paul talking to him across the universe. nothing's gonna change the love john has for his best friend paul.

Lennon's Best Cosmic EffortPosted by Mark, 12/09/2006 05:24
This is the number that Lennon said he liked best of all his efforts. I agree. It is spacial and ethereal and it has the most positive poetic message of all their numbers. They took the track many times * See the book "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions" - Mark Lewisohn - Orig published by EMI and Hamlyn c1988 - If you are a Beatles fan and who isn't ?!?!?! You need this book!!!
It tells of every last detail of how all the songs were recorded, mixed, erased, rerecorded, who played what instrument, who did what backing vocals, what was later dubbed and redone on what dates and the sound engineers contributions, etc, etc, etc.
What is unique about this number is that Lennon and McCartney took it over and over till Lennon and their producer George Martin were happy with it. Then it still wasn't enough. Late one night Paul went outside the studio and asked two teen girls to come inside as they needed really high falsetto voices for the backing vocals. The two young women that they recorded for this backing vocals did the "nothings gonna change my world" high harmonies but were later scrubbed from the recording and redone with more Beatles vocals instead. It was the forst time ever that fans were asked to contribute in the studio. There was backward recorded drum and base instruments that were later changed. An original intro was done with sitar by George but then the final finished take was to use only Lennons acoustic guitar and the others backing harmonies. - Although recorded Sunday Feb 4 1968 but not released until after Abby Road as Across the Universe later sat on the shelf until Lennon took the Let it Be session tapes to Phil Spector to add all the 'orchestra walls of sound' and finally release it as on their last Album, Let It Be. - Mark
